Tutoring

Tutoring: Available online or In-Person

Different students require support in different areas. We believe it is important to target the challenging skill in a very specific way. We employ a variety of multisensory strategies to engage students in instruction that is designed for the individual. Tutoring can be provided either online or in person, based on the student’s needs.

CONCEPT COMPREHENSION TUTORING

Focusing on visualizing the concepts of language, students learn to internalize various images and apply them to higher level inferences.  These skills can be applied to reading comprehension, listening comprehension, geography, and more.

PARAGRAPH AND ESSAY WRITING STRUCTURE TUTORING

Through acronyms for each genre, students will learn the parts and organization necessary for clear writing beginning first with paragraphs and then expanding into essays with similar structures.

SENTENCE WRITING FLUENCY TUTORING

By color-coding parts of speech, students will learn the common patterns of the English language and will learn to write and punctuate grammatically correct sentences.

READING BASICS TUTORING

Students will learn the sounds of English, how those sounds are represented with letters, and the common letter patterns within words. They will participate in word work to internalize common patterns to support both reading and spelling.

SPELLING TUTORING

Learn the 71 spelling patterns and 47 spelling rules of the English language.  Practice spelling and marking words to transfer the rules and patterns to new words.

HOMEWORK HELP

While specific remediation in a skill gap is incredibly beneficial, sometimes there just isn’t enough time in the day to add more work time. This is when homework help may be beneficial. We will weave specific skill instruction into homework time as appropriate and alleviate the stress that sometimes comes with independent or parent-directed homework time.

EXECUTIVE FUNCTION TUTORING

Executive function skills are sometimes referred to as ‘soft skills’ and are just as important as academic skills. These include organization, study skills, self-advocacy, and emotional regulation. Bring homework or projects and work through applying these skills with homework as the medium. Learn to plan a large project or a series of tasks and follow through on that plan or learn to deal with your frustration on a difficult task. Learn about your challenges and strengths and how to communicate them to others.
